SONIC BEACON GUIDE FOR THE BLIND

REQUIREMENT

Navigation and mobility for the blind and visually impaired persons is a major challenge. The visually impaired persons move with the aid of a cane and a lot of other external cues like step count, familiar sounds, ground conditions etc. Amongst all the cues the sonic or sound cues are most receptive and they can very easily orient themselves to the sound source. Keeping in view these requirements for the visually challenged a device was designed with some innovations to emit a programmed sound. The sound produced was guided as a beam focusing on the path of the visually impaired person. The sonic guide is switched on 24 X 7. The whole equipment is power independent and operates on solar energy through the year. The unit is fully weather proof, vandal proof, low cost and can be erected with least efforts. Sounds can be programmed according to the users choice.
