REQUIREMENT

Khadi spinning was introduced in India by Mahatma Gandhi Ji. Khadi spinning provided a source of living for the rural population even in remote villages. The spun khadi was woven into cloth and converted into a variety of articles. Most of the charkha spinners are from very poor and come from impoverished backgrounds with many not even having electricity at home. The traditional charkha was modified with a generator attachement to produce electricty during the khadi spinning, the electricity produced is stored and illuminates a small lamp in the hut during night. 1 hour of spinning produces enough electricity for providing 3 hours of light. All parts are designed to provide a very long operational life.
